Overview
Brief History
Udzungwa Mountains National Park, established in 1992, covers 1,990 km² in southern Tanzania. Managed by TANAPA, it’s part of the Eastern Arc Mountains, a biodiversity hotspot. The park protects endemic primates like the Sanje mangabey and is known for its lush rainforests and scenic waterfalls.
Climate and Accessibility
Accessible by road from Morogoro (65 km, 1-2 hours) or by train to Mang’ula. The dry season (June-October) is best for hiking, with temperatures of 20-28°C. The wet season (November-April) brings 1,500-2,000 mm rainfall, making trails slippery but waterfalls spectacular.
